1. Choose The Perfect Venue
There’s no denying that choosing your wedding venue should be the first thing on your to-do list. As a general rule of thumb, your venue should be booked 9-12 months in advance of your wedding. If you’re looking for a North Georgia venue that includes all the diverse environments mentioned above, check out Yarborough Mill.
2. Take Engagement Photos
North Georgia is also a beautiful location for the perfect engagement photos. If you get engaged in the fall, visit Copper Creek Farm’s corn maze and pumpkin patch for a creative engagement photo session. They also have a sunflower festival which is a great option for beautiful photos in June or July.
You could also take photos along the Benton MacKaye Trail near Blue Ridge where there’s a long suspension bridge and waterfall that makes for some gorgeous photos. There are also plenty of wineries and vineyards like Chateau Meichtry, Engelheim Vineyards, and Chateau Elan.

3. Find Your Wedding Dress
Once you’ve found your venue and shown off your engagement, it’s time to begin the hunt for your perfect wedding dress! Wedding dresses should be purchased around 8 months before your wedding to ensure there’s ample time for dress shops to order anything they might not have in stock and for alterations to be made and adjusted if needed.
North Georgia is not a far drive from Atlanta where there are tons of bridal shops for every type of bride. Anna Christine Bridal is a bridal shop in Canton, GA in case you’re not wanting to leave the North Georgia area. However, if you are ok with branching out, there are tons of options a little further south including Adore Bridal Boutique in Kennesaw, Bridals by Madison in Woodstock, White Swan Bridal Boutique in Roswell, and so many more. There is no shortage of bridal shops here!

4. Plan Bachelor & Bachelorette Parties
Here’s a super fun part of wedding planning – the bachelor and bachelorette parties! While you might not be exactly “planning” this one, you can definitely give your input of where you’d like to go and what kind of things you’d like to do. In North Georgia, there are tons of Airbnb’s or VRBO’s with breathtaking views and lots of fun entertainment options.
Once you’ve found the place to stay, you can start planning some activities in the area. Check out some wineries (like Chateau Meichtry, Engelheim Vineyards, and Chateau Elan mentioned above), go horseback riding at Georgia Frontiers, Bent Tree Stables, or Cowgirl Up Stables. There’s also the option of driving a little further to visit Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, or go skiing or snowboarding at Cataloochee.
5. Book Your Rehearsal Dinner
There are tons of great restaurants in North Georgia to choose from when planning your rehearsal dinner, if you’re not planning to cater to your wedding venue. Downtown Adairsville is home to The Water Tower Grille, Milania’s NY Pizza, and the sophisticated Woodlands Grill at Barnsley Resort. If you’re looking to branch out a little farther, try The Black Sheep in Blue Ridge, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, or The Smith House in Delonegha.

If you don’t want to go far for your honeymoon, there are tons of options for honeymoon places to stay and activities in North Georgia. Stay Dahlonega is an Airbnb rental group that has tons of beautiful cabins and treehouses, some even specific to honeymooners in North Georgia. They have plenty of options for intimate getaways. Once you’ve found a place to stay, it’s time to find some fun activities to do together!
